Umbilical cord scissors with distinctive wide, curved blades are designed to reduce cord slippage and the sharp, precise blades minimize tissue damage, which also reduces the risk of cord infection. These scissors are typically used without pre-clamping the umbilical cord, as the curvature of the blades holds the cord firmly in place.
Most mums have a natural instinct to separate or chew through the umbilical cords themselves. Although maiden's and some others can often need help especially first the first puppy born. They are many "ideas" about the best way to cut the cord but you can solve that by having a pair of Umbilical Cord Scissors in your dog breeder's whelping kit. The use of umbilical cord scissors reduces the risk of introducing bacteria and infection through the navel cord. The umbilical cord should be clamped and cut about 1 inch from the body.
