Using temperature as indicator of whelping, is a commonly used method to monitor your in whelp dog for labour prediction.

Every dog breeder needs a reliable digital thermometer in their whelping kit. They are much safer than the mercury style and produce an accurate reading in 1/3 of the time. This single button thermometer has a flexi silicone head, is easy to use and accurately measures body temperature in 1 minute, and beeps to let you know it’s done.

  • Flexible Silicone head design
  • Memory: last temperature reading
  • Easy to read Digital LCD screen
  • Display range: 32.0~42.0 Celsius
  • Min. scale: 0.1
  • Accuracy: ±0.1oC
  • Automatic Shut off
  • Beeps when done
  • Battery Included
  • Storage case
  • Size: 134 x 22 x 14mm

Accurate and reliable, when turned on the memory recalls last temperature reading, a handy feature if you’ve forgetter to record the last temperature. Its energy efficient, with an automatic power off after approx. 8 minutes.

Using a Digital Thermometer:

  1. Before use, disinfect the thermometer sensor head with an alcohol swab.
  2. Press the power button, and the display shows the last temperature measured.
  3. Followed by the prompt symbol  “Lo (temperature)” display flashes, indicating that it is ready to use.
  4. Insert the thermometer head about 2cm and the display will show the temperature gradually rising. (the C symbol flashes, indicating that the measurement is in progress)
  5. Digital Thermometer beeps when stable temperature measurement is complete.

Rectal thermometry is widely used in veterinary medicine and is considered to be the most accurate. It is a painless procedure, accomplished by inserting the tip of a thermometer, lubricated to eliminate friction and aid in insertion past the anal sphincter, to a depth of 2-5cm depending on the size of dog. The thermometer tip must then be left in place until a reading is measured, usually, 1 minute.
